Content Warnings: spoilers for Sunhead
Sunhead (author's website) is a comic by Alex Assan about a teenager whose favorite book is a paranormal romance titled Sunrise. It's very transparently a reference to Twilight, with a vampire boy loving a human girl and trying desperately not to hurt her. But mostly when people talk about Twilight, it's with sarcastic condescension towards the writing quality or the messages it's sending or just its utter unlikeability to anyone who's not a dumb teen girl. Sunhead is really, refreshingly different from that. It's about how Twilight felt to the people who loved it- drama, thrills, romance, transgression. Oh, and also- it's about a teenager who's obsessed with a handsome, mysterious vampire, and also, he's not a girl.
